Eltek Highlights Success in Power Utility and Railway Markets
Eltek today highlighted its success in DC power systems for industrial markets, including power utilities, rail and metro.
DRAMMEN, NORWAY - Feb. 4, 2014 - Recently Eltek has won a number of contracts within the power utility and railway segments, contributing to the company's rapid growth in the industrial applications business area.
"Product advantages - combined with hard work - are the reasons for the positive developments in industrial applications. We are pleased to see this progress in our industrial markets," said Colin Howe, Eltek CEO.
Power Utility Success
Eltek brings modular, highly reliable power systems to a wide range of applications related to power generation, transmission and distribution.
The company's rapidly growing business in this area involves an increasing number of customers in South America, Middle East and Africa, Europe and Asia Pacific including important utilities as well as large specialist corporations such as Alstom Grid and ABB Power Systems.
A key example of the company's work for utilities is its involvement in the South-West Link project in Sweden. Eltek is working with Alstom Grid, a global supplier of power generation, transmission and distribution solutions and equipment, to provide the power supply systems for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) substations in this project.
Specifically, Eltek is providing chargers, inverters and batteries for control and protection equipment in the sites owned by Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish power utility. The 1,440 Megawatt South-West Link project will connect Barkeryd in central Sweden to Hurva in southern Sweden using HVDC technology.
Railway and Metro success
Eltek's sales in this market have come from Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa and Europe. Some key new customers include Queensland Rail, Siemens, Thales and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
The company's work with Queensland Rail exemplifies the need for new, modular DC power systems in this market. The Queensland Rail project was a 20-site update of 40-year-old Ferro resonant power technology with Eltek's state-of-the-art systems that has significantly improved the reliability of the train signaling systems.
The Eltek Flatpack2 DC power system replaced the older systems with no change to the infrastructure and immediately offered upgradability and higher reliability.
"Eltek offers a highly differentiated product to these customers who are used to monolithic systems that lack advantages we provide now," said Lars Dousa, Eltek Vice President of Industrial Markets.
